Super Endeavour Rally
Charleville to Yeppoon via East Arnhem Land.
July 2nd - 19th 2012
For those unfamiliar with the term "Super Endeavour", here is a bit of history
as to how it all came about. The Great Endeavour made its maiden voyage back in
1988 and from that point continued to grow. By 1990 the rally had bred some
well built, go anywhere, reinforced, seam welded, heaps of grunt Aussie
drivers. The cars were quite similar as well! From this it was clear an
additional challenge should be put forth. Something that would offer a diehard
Great Endeavourite the ultimate challenge. In 1991 the then Road Boss, Allan
Lawson, ran a Super Endeavour up to Darwin and back. Due to popular demand, it
was then announced that the Super Endeavour be run every four years. Since then
there has been five Super Endeavours, the second one to the very tip of Cape
York, this being the first ever 2wd event to make that journey, the third Super
ran over to Broome on the west coast of Australia and back, also being the
first car rally to make the return crossing, and the 2003 Super, our jewel in
the crown, with a successful 2wd Simpson Desert Crossing. Our fifth and
previous super crossed the continent through the very centre of Australia to
Kalgoorlie and back. Traditionally the Super starts one week before the Great
Endeavour and both events meet up somewhere and travel the last four or five
days together as one. Given the total distance and amount of days, the Super is
usually more demanding on car and crew than the normal Great Endeavour. 2012
will see the sixth Super Endeavour take place, and once again will be a
challenging event travelling into areas that 2wd's would not normally go. Come
July 2012, 40 very well prepared cars and crews well embark on a once in a
lifetime challenge, and travel from Charleville, to Yeppoon, via East Arnhem
Land in the Northern territory. To be eligible for the Super Endeavour, the
principle entrants must have participated in at least one Great Endeavour
Rally. Given the difficulty and remoteness of the country where it travels and
the logistics involved, entry numbers are quite restricted
